A Recipe for New Year's Eve

Champagne Hair Rinse

This is an old French secret for making hair shiny, silky, and healthy. If you have light-colored hair, it brings out the golden lights in it.

1/2 C champagne
1/2 C hot water

1) Shampoo
2) Cream rinse if desired (not needed)
3) Rinse hair w/ champagne/hot water mixture
4) Leave champagne rinse on hair.
The hair is left looking vital and lustrous, with pale champagne highlights.

Fluid, Splashy, Watercolors: One of my Fav Things!

I spend hours each week sifting through thousands of handmade websites and shops featuring various artists and crafters. Here is a jewel I just recently found and would like to share: Hammelman Art.

Hammelman Art is an online gallery featuring the original works of Linda Hammelman.

Linda's watercolors are fluid, colorful, splashy and energetic. Her favorite subjects reflect her interest in boating, flowers, people and places. She has received numerous awards and is a signature member of the Saint Louis Watercolor Society.

Linda is a native Missourian who has lived in Texas, Iowa, and Virginia and is now at home again in St. Louis. She holds the position of Director and Treasurer of the Saint Louis Watercolor Society.

Classic Movie Monster Bubbly

Modern Day St. Dorothy candle: One of my FAVs

Who wouldn't love "Our Lady of the Plains Calendar 2009 / St Dorothy" or a "St (I LOVE) Lucy prayer candle" with the "novena" prayer saying on the back which reads..."Mediatation: Babalu, Babalu, Desilu ~ Repeat 3 Times."?

Los Angeles - based artist Vicki Berndt's work is a bold, sometimes exaggerated, always affectionate take on popular culture. A collection of magnificent obsessions - religious and pop icons and images rendered in vivid colors - her portraits have a deeply spiritual feel while retaining strong rock & roll, show biz overtones.

BERNDTOFFERINGS is a super unique shop I think I can do lots of Holiday shopping in!

Photos through the Eyes of a Child: 1 of my FAV things!

No really, these photos WERE taken by a 9 year old child!

As the story goes, the boy's father bought the boy's mother a digital camera for her birthday. Since the mother didn't know how to operate the camera, the boy asked if he could give it a whirl & has not set it down since.

He decided to sell his works on ETSY to raise enough money to buy a camera of his own.

Rumor has it, the family is in the process of turning his photos into awesome jewelry too so bookmark his shop & check back often!

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast, directed by Francis Dodds, was performed by the Corsicana Children's Company on April 24, 25, 26 & twice on the 27th. The cast was full of young people ages 9-16 while lights and sound were run by children 13-16.

My daughter was in the cast and it was absolutely exhausting. Rehearsals ran daily for 6 weeks, even on Sundays. All their handwork paid off, the show was VERY well received. I was fearful the boys would get out of control during the sword fight (goodness knows they broke 13 wooden swords during rehearsals!) and injure an audience member but that didn't happen (sigh of relief!).

I did my part too as the scenic artist as well as assistant stage manager. There won't be another Children's show until November. We can hardly wait!

Feeding time for the Mantees. These amazing animals were just inches away on the other side of the glass. They are in a huge river habitat with dozens of other creatures both in the water and on land. Most of the habitat is viewed from above but there is a glass window on one side of the habitat where you can view them at eye level.

Here is shot taken, looking up at Sting rays & Sharks, while walking through a glass tunnel. Now that is not an angle you see everyday!

Chocolicious Sugar Scrub: A Recipe

I thought it might be fun to post make at home recipes on my blog from time to time, so here is the first of many to come!

INGREDIENTS:
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
1/2 Cup Sugar (brown or white)
1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil (Soybean, Canola, Sunflower, your choice)
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients together. Rub into moist skin (in the shower is best) in a circular motion to exfoliate tired skin and increase circulation.

This delicious scrub will leave you glowing!

ABOUT:
Because this scrub does not contain a preservative, it should be used the day it is made. Please discard any unused portion. Preservatives are VERY important in scrubs. When water is introduced into a scrub (via a splash, a wet hand or steam) the water brings bacteria with it. Bacteria would just love to run a muck in your sugar scrubs! Please be careful and make sure your scrubs are properly preserved or that scrubs with out preservative are used up while still fresh!

Who would have thought?

Who would have thought? Last spring a friend asked if I could create an all natural deodorant effective enough for an adult to use, but gentle enough for her *tween* daughter. I was reluctant to take on the task but finally decided to give it a whirl.

The results were very surprising! This is my #1 HOTTEST selling item! My *Butter Bars*, comprised simply of Soybean Oil, Beeswax, Sunflower Oil, Baking Soda, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, are a healthy way to get an extra boost of silky smooth to your delicate under arm skin. The added baking soda acts as a NATURAL deodorant. A win-win situation!
